When & How Often Should You Use Cuticle Oil

Cuticle Oil is an oil specially blended to be applied directly to your cuticles, nails, and on the skin around your nails to keep them well-nourished and moisturized.

Now it’s important that you consistently use cuticle oil. This is because cuticle oil has been shown to keep your cuticles healthy and in good shape which in turn promotes stronger and healthier nails. Citation.

So that’s why in this article we will guide you on when is the best time to apply cuticle oil and how often you should use one.

How Often Should You Use Cuticle Oil

To have healthy cuticles, most experts recommend that you apply cuticle oil at least 3 times a day.

But if you can and especially if you have damaged and worn-out cuticles you should apply cuticle oil every time you wash your hands.

You see every time you wash your hands you wash away both your skin’s natural moisturizers and any cuticle oil that you already applied. This causes your cuticles to become dry and dehydrated which is why you got to reapply the cuticle oil to keep them moisturized.

Now you should especially try to frequently use cuticle oil if your hands and nails are constantly exposed to:

  • Extremely high or low temperatures,
  • Intense sunlight,
  • Hand Sanitizers or chemicals that have high alcohol content,
  • Detergents such as bleach and soap.
  • Saltwater
  • Chlorine or
  • Any other situations that may dry out your skin. Citation.

But even if you just use cuticle oil at least once a day – your cuticles and nails will start to look and feel stronger and healthier.

Now after two weeks of daily usage your nails and cuticles should start looking better.

When Should You Apply Cuticle Oil

You should apply cuticle oil in the:

1- Mornings as Part of your Makeup Routine

By using cuticle oil in the mornings helps to moisturize and hydrate your cuticles for the rest of the day. I recommend incorporating it with your makeup routine so that it becomes a consistent habit.

2- Midday After Lunch

During the course of the morning, most of the cuticle oil would have been removed either by rubbing off on other materials or when you wash your hands.

So I recommend reapplying some cuticle oil at midday after you have washed your hands from eating your lunch.

3- At Night Before you go to Sleep

Always apply a coat of cuticle oil before your go to bed to keep your cuticles and nails well moisturized and hydrated overnight.

Now to amplify this I highly recommend wearing moisturizing gloves as well. This is to ensure that the cuticle oil is fully absorbed into your skin.

A pure cotton glove paired with a good cuticle oil would work really well. You can click here to see the price on Amazon for the pair of gloves that I recommend.

Should You Apply Cuticle Oil After a Manicure

You should always moisturize your cuticles and nails with cuticle oil after you have done a manicure or after you have removed your nail polishes or acrylics.

This is because harsh chemicals such as acetone and acrylics can severely dehydrate and damage your cuticles and nails. And applying cuticle oil will help to nourish and rejuvenate them.
