2 Ways to Easily Remove Dip Powder Nails Without Acetone
The normal method of using acetone to remove Dip Powder can be both frustrating and sadly very damaging to both your natural nails and your cuticles.
This is because the conventional method usually requires soaking your nails in acetone for a long period of time. And this is bad for you because acetone is a very corrosive chemical that can eat away at your nails and skin.
That’s why in this article, I am gonna share with you 2 easy methods to remove your Dip Nails without using any acetone.
1- How to Remove Dip Powder Using Oil, Soap & Water
You can remove your Dip Powder Manicures by soaking them in a mixture of soap, oil, and very warm water,
Now, I usually only recommend this method when your dip powder nails are old and worn out, otherwise it would require a lot of soaking.
If your dip manicures are relatively new and in good shape you should file them off which is the next method in this article.
Things You Would Need:
- Oil – You can use cooking oil such as canola or olive oil but you can also use body oil or baby oil too.
- Dish Soap or Body Wash – Any brand would work.
- Hot Water – But not hot enough to burn you.
- A Cuticle Pusher or a Nail Tip – Something flat to use to lift the nails up.
Method:
- The first thing you would need to do is use a cuticle pusher or a nail tip to gently push underneath the sides of your nails.
- This helps to loosen the nails up and allow the water and oil mixture to seep under.
- Next, apply some oil directly onto your nails.
- Now using a large bowl mix the hot water with your oil and dish soap.
- Then you can proceed to soak your nails into the mixture for around 20 minutes.
- Finally, once your nails have soaked you can use your cuticle pusher to gently lift the dip nails up to remove them.
- If your nails are still struggling to come off, you can resoak them again.

2- How to Remove Dip Powder Using a Nail File
Alternatively, you can also use a nail file to remove your dip powder nails.
For manually filing dip powder nails off, I recommend using a 100/180 grit nail file.
- Firstly, use a nail clipper to cut off any nail extensions.
- Then use the 100-grit part of the nail file to file away the bulk of the colored dip powder.
- Finally, once the colored dip powder has been removed use the 180-grit part of the nail file to smooth out your nails.

How to Use an Electric Nail File to Remove Dip Powder
Now manually filing the dip powder nails off can take a long time which is why most nail techs use an electric nail file.

Electric Nail Files are extremely powerful and can quickly remove your Dip Powder Nails. But they are a bit technical to use especially for a beginner which is why I recommend if you are using one for the first time that you:
- Use the electric nail file to just remove the top part of the Dip Powder
- And then soak your nails in acetone to remove to other layers.
- I recommend soaking cotton pads with acetone and placing them directly on your nails and using foil wrap to keep them in place.
- Let it soak for around 10 minutes and then use a cuticle pusher to scrape away the dip powder.
